WHAT IS THE WAR ON CHRISTMAS?
It’s people trying to make Christmas more politically correct. For example, atheists and agnostics don’t like saying “Merry Christmas!” because ‘Christmas’ is a Christian belief. Instead, they move to, instead, say “Happy Holidays!” or “Season’s Greetings!”
In other words, they want to make the holidays non-believer-friendly.
STATISTICS: More than 1/4 of America are full-fledge atheists and agnostics. Not included in that are the Americans that say they belong to no religious denominations. Also, Americans largely drop out of their religion. A lot of American’s aren’t religious (but a lot also are, ESPECIALLY in rural areas.).
THE POWER OF ANTI-RELIGION AND RELIGION.
“ “Here’s the bottom line: Where religion is weak, atheism is weak” in its intensity, says Pitzer sociologist Phil Zuckerman. “Where religion is strong, atheism is strong.” Zuckerman has found that people in Scandinavian countries like Denmark and Sweden, among the world’s most profoundly nonreligious, generally eschew the “atheist” label and even marry in Lutheran churches. He labels the dominant attitude “benign indifference.” ”
The more religious your surroundings, the more non-believers would be anti-religion.
WHERE IS THIS HAPPENING?
In America, there is more diversity of beliefs in the cities, so there is little to no oppression.
However, in rural areas, a lot of the people are very faithful, so non-believers in those areas feel overwhelmed by the beliefs and practices.
Because of the religiousness of the rural areas, the nonbelievers are even more opposed to the whole concept.
WHAT HAPPENS ON CHRISTMAS (Specifically in the rural areas)?
-Prayers everywhere.
-Mass everywhere.
-Nativity scenes.
-Religious carols (e.g. Joy to the World, Silent Night)
-Ten commandments billboards.
-Preachers on the radio and TV (*Note that FOX news is very much Christian.)

Also, if you’re opposed to these or don’t practice them, you’d most likely be associated as “immoral.” Yikes.
ORGANIZATION ARISES.
The Pennsylvania Non-Believers (or PAN) is an organization of central-state atheists.
*Note that Pennsylvania’s is very much divided among the faithful and nonbelievers.
The group was created for nonbelievers to stand up for their rights and place in society amongst the faithful, and to know other nonbelievers, to know that they are not alone.
WHAT IS HAPPENING ON THE WAR ON CHRISTMAS?
Garnering support, Voicing out:
“ The Times Square billboard is not shy about its war on Christmas: “Keep the merry, dump the myth,” it reads, juxtaposing an image of jolly St. Nick with one of Christ’s agony on the cross. Sponsored by Cranford, N.J.-based American Atheists, the sign is funded in significant part by small-town nonbelievers nationwide. ”
Against “Christianization”:
“ PAN leader Carl Silverman, who the Public Opinion wryly noted had “shaped public policy in [the] Franklin County area before,” was on the receiving end of the most personal invective.
“In these rural areas you find all these problems, and the only way you can deal with these problems is if you are outspoken and you are active,” says Silverman, who has this year battled three Pennsylvania school boards over prayer at meetings and is currently investigating a school where a former professional athlete proselytized to students.
In the 1990s, Silverman discovered that the Gideons were handing out Bibles at local schools and threatened to hand out fliers titled “God Is Just Pretend” if they didn’t stop. He attracted the attention of the New York Times in 1999, which chronicled his fight to take down crosses in a public park and to stop a Church Bulletin Day at the minor league baseball stadium in nearby Hagerstown, Md. ”
NORTH KOREA VS SOUTH KOREA ON CHRISTMAS
The South Koreans have set up a tree-shaped steel tower, filled with Christmas lights and a cross on top at Gimpo, west of Seoul of South Korea.
The lights are visible several kilometers away in the impoverished North which suffers chronic power shortages. The North Korea News Agency describes this as an undisguised and challenge to them and an unacceptable provocation. They deemed it as “psychological warfare” and condemned it as the capitalist side (South Korea) trying to spread Christianity on the communist side (North Korea).
You could see protests going around about this whole thing. South Korea had to post guards to protect the Christmas tree. Tension rises.
