A new way devised to stop the effects of global warming is to pump sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere.

The idea of putting SO2 into the ozone layer was taken from Mount Pinatubo's eruption, where 20 million tons of sulfur were released into the atmosphere, and over the next months, spread across the globe. Over the next year, temperatures dropped by half a degree Celsius, getting scientists thinking that if a single volcanic eruption could roll back global warming, they could do it themselves.

The process is as such : Take a few million tons of sulfur dioxide (as it goes coal plants produce this as a byproduct and it's also a common industrial chemical), load them onto converted 747s, military jets, or even large balloons, release the SO2 into the air to produce a chemical reaction, and the planet will cool. Scientists are still looking for a different chemical instead of sulfur dioxide, though, as the particles created by the chemical reaction could also contribute to the depletion of the ozone layer.
